Acropolis on Calton Hill – Edinburgh

The Acropolis sits proudly on the top of Calton Hill looking over the medieval city of Edinburgh.
Carlton Hills monuments are largely responsible for Edinburgh being nicknamed the modern Athens.

The National Monument was constructed to remember the victory of Waterloo and also to commemorate the Scottish Soldiers who fought in the Peninsular War, the National Monument was never finished, and because of this it has gained more interest than it would have expectedly done if it had been fully constructed.

The Edinburgh Acropolis is only one of many monuments and statues that litter this great cultural city. If you are visiting and looking for a hotel Edinburgh you won’t be stuck for choice. Tastes and budgets to suit all needs.
